Leland Scores High for Customer Satisfaction
The Massachusetts Department of Public Health recently conducted a satisfaction survey of responsible parties for residents living in Nursing Homes and Residential Care Facilities. This survey is unique in that it is the first of its kind in Massachusetts and the data will help to assist in the decision making for future residents to find appropriate placement. The survey focused on the level of satisfaction responsible parties had with the facility staff, environment of care, activities program and personnel, patient/resident care services, food services, and resident rights. 297 providers, out of a possible 449, took part in the survey, thus generating a 64% response rate.
We are very proud that The Leland Home ranked 11th highest in Massachusetts for customer satisfaction. The results truly reflect the hard work, quality care, dedication, and level of service our staff provides to our residents on a daily basis. You may access the entire file with all the results at http://www.mass.gov/dph/dhcq/nh_satisfaction_table.htm
Annual Volunteer Appreciation Tea
Winston Churchill said "We make a living by what we do, but we make a life by what we give." The annual Volunteer Appreciation Tea was held at the Leland Home on April 27th. The contributions of 59 individuals and groups, who have volunteered and enriched our lives here at Leland over the past year, were recognized. These volunteers shared much of their time, many special talents, and ALL of themselves! Candy Bouris, our Director of Volunteers and Activities, highlighted the gifts of music, business sense, ministry, friendship, love, and service that each had generously made. Our volunteers have made quite a 'life' for themselves - and us - by all they have given!
Thanks again for all you do!
The Swinging Door
It is a known fact that the majority of long-term care facilities have an incredible "turn-over" in their employee roster. Also known as the "employee entrance swinging door"! This certainly is not the case at The Leland Home!! We are very proud to tell you that we have many long-term employees at Leland. Our employee roster lists 26 employees….of the 26, more than 50% of our valued employees have been with us for more than 10 years and another 30% -more than 5 years. When we are giving a tour of Leland to a prospective resident and/or their families, we stress our wonderful and dedicated staff's longevity of service to Leland.
After sixteen years of dedicated service to Leland as a dedicated nursing assistant, we wish Leide Dery, a wonderful and fruitful retirement. Leide, we will miss you
Exploring New Cultures at Leland
Juan Carlos Olivo had called Leland offering to volunteer his services to better help him better improve his English. Having recently moved to Waltham from his native homeland of Peru, Juan Carlos, 30, was looking for a way to give back to the community. He has since been teaching the residents of Leland Home Spanish in his Wednesday evening Spanish Class. Juan Carlos has added a new energy and vitality to the Leland Home and the residents are always excited when he arrives on Wednesdays. Both the residents and staff of Leland Home feel that it's nice to see such great things to come for such a wonderful person.
